What is Microsoft PMax, and how is it different from Google's?
The same automation concept as Google's, with different inventory, less signal and its own pacing. Where the two differ and why they should be managed separately.

Is Microsoft Performance Max the same as Google Performance Max?
Microsoft Performance Max shares the same automation concept as Google Performance Max (a single campaign optimising toward one goal across an ad network), but the underlying mechanics differ in three areas: inventory, signal availability, and reporting.
How does Microsoft PMax inventory differ from Google's?
Microsoft PMax draws on Bing plus syndicated partner networks including AOL and Yahoo, a smaller and differently composed audience than Google's Search, YouTube, Display, Gmail and Maps surfaces.
Why does Microsoft PMax have less signal data than Google?
Microsoft has a smaller first-party behavioural data set than Google, so its automation has less signal to learn from at an equivalent spend level, which can extend the time needed to reach stable performance.
Does Microsoft PMax underperform Google PMax?
Not inherently. Performance depends on audience composition. Brands with an older or more desktop-leaning customer base sometimes see Microsoft's network overperform relative to its spend share, due to lower competition in the auction.
Should Microsoft and Google PMax campaigns be managed the same way?
No. Each platform should be budgeted and paced independently, and a learning phase or budget change should not be assumed to behave identically across both, given the difference in signal depth.
